ABOUT THE AMSTAFF

History
A well written insight into the history of the American Staffordshire Terrier. From its origin in the 19th century to when and how the Amstaff began in Australia.

Breed standard
This is the Breed Standard as per the ANKC (Australian National Kennel Council). In essence a breed standard is a blueprint for an animal fit for the function it was bred - i.e. herding, tracking etc. Breed standards are not scientific documents, and may vary from association to association, and from country to country, even for the same species and breed.

Temperament
Generally describing the temperament in a more in depth manner of the AST.  'An Amstaff should always display courage and confidence.'

Health
Lots of information on what type of testing to look for when researching an American Staffordshire Terrier. This page also explains what type of potential health issues to look out for and gives a general overview of general health of an AST. An important part of researching and making an informed decision on which breeder to potentially purchase a puppy from.
